Do you know what Mach 1, Mach 2, Mach 3 mean?

Mach 1, Mach 2, Mach 3, etc. is used to describe a speed of a moving vehicle or object. “Mach” is basically the speed of sound. So when we say a vehicle is moving at Mach 1 speed — what we’re saying is that this vehicle is moving at the speed of sound (1234,8 km/h). And when we say a vehicle is moving at Mach 2 speed — it means that the speed of this vehicle is the speed of sound X2 — which is 1234,8 * 2 = 2469,6 km/h.

When a vehicle is moving at Mach 3 — it’s the same but in this case we have to multiply the speed of sound by 3:

Mach 3 speed equals to 1234,8 * 3 = 3704,4 km/h.

So, you get the point?

The Mach number is TIMES the speed of sound of the moving object.
